Upskilling the Workforce at Auto Doors (Scotland) Ltd
Tom McAvoy, Director of Auto Doors (Scotland) Ltd, came to RT Resources after being advised by their own clients who had used them in the past, to discuss how he could upskill his workforce in both his manufacturing and installing teams.
Auto Doors hold substantial contracts with Councils, leading Supermarkets and one of Britain’s largest bookmaking organisations, so it is vital that the company have recognisable qualifications in the sector, including full Q-Cards (CSCS Cards from GQA) to be allowed on client’s construction sites.
For the past year our Assessor has been working alongside some of the Auto Doors workforce delivering qualifications in both Fenestration Installation & Surveying and Fabrication of Glass Supporting Systems. The employees undertaking the qualifications, including Tom, had to complete the CITB Health & Safety test and apply for a temporary Q Card (CSCS Card), which was all organised and assessed by RT Resources at Auto Doors premises.
The employees then completed units including topics such as Improving Production, Fabrication of Framing Systems, Installation of Windows and Conservatories etc., building on their existing experience.
“Most of our employees found the training provided by Brian our Assessor easy to understand. If they had any difficulties with written work, we had group discussions and this instilled confidence in them to approach the units.”Tom McAvoy
Since completion of the qualification, all the employees who undertook the Fenestration Installation & Surveying qualification now have full Glass & Glazing Q-Cards allowing them to enter constructions sites. For Auto Doors larger contracts this demonstrates a high-quality workforce and is an integral part of their tender process.
“The course it made all the employees much more aware of Health and Safety, and of the Employees and Employers own responsibilities. There is no doubt that completing the qualification has improved their work practice and the efficiencies within the factory. From start to finish RT Resources have been exceptional to deal with and have improved our employee’s skills and working practices considerably. We are in the process of starting another group of employees on the qualifications and look forward to seeing how they progress within the company.”Tom McAvoy
Auto Doors have seen the benefits of completing their SVQ’s in Glass and Glazing and have benefited from funding via the Modern Apprenticeship scheme. Call us or contact us to discuss how we can help your workforce improve their skills.
